 What are mid-market
rates and currency margin?

The mid-market’s rate is the mid-point between “the buy” and “the sell” prices of the two currencies to an exchange rate – what the buyer is prepared to pay and what the seller is prepared to sell for. It is also known as the interbank rate and if you google EUR to DKK you are going to get the mid-market’s rate.

Banks and brokers always apply a “spread” or “margin” to the mid-market’s rate, which is effectively a hidden charge that affects the quoted rate.

Usually when you transfer money abroad trading one currency to another, using your bank, you dont see the real time exchange rate. Using November First you always know how much money you need to transfer, thanks to the real time exchange rates.

What is mid-market’s margin?

As stated above pure mid-market’s rate is not available for buying/selling foreign currencies and that is where margins come into play. In order to stay profitable, banks and other financial entities apply margins to mid-market’s rates.

Margin is unique for each currency and might be different from bank to bank. It is always hidden inside the exchange rate.
